The Varsity Wolves 2016 team opened their season on the road Tuesday evening at South Forsyth and came away with a hard fought, 10 inning, 8-3 win. The Wolves saw a 2-0 lead in the 7th disappear and then fought 3 more innings before blowing the game open with a 5 run, 10th inning.
Logan Caymol started in the circle and dominated for 6 innings. Ansley Byers came on to pitch the final 3 innings to claim her first varsity win of her career.
The Wolves scored early on Mariah Wicker's triple and took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. SF would score 2 in the 7th to tie the game and send it into extra innings. Each team scored a run in the 8th and each was shutout in the 9th before the Wolves big 10th inning. In the 10th, Samantha Thomas blasted a long 2 run homer and Shea Bayreuther doubled home 3 more to give the Wolves the win.
The Wolves played 10 errorless innings and had several big defensive plays from Arielle Oda, Kelsey Bennett, Katie Perkins and Mariah Wicker.
