Wolves go 3-1 in the Perfect Game High School Showdown

Wolves battle at Lakepoint

The Buford Wolves baseball team traveled to Lakepoint Park (Emerson, Ga.) to play in the Perfect Game High School Showdown this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday (March 9-11).  The Wolves faced teams from Alabama, Florida, Texas and Georgia during the weekend long event.  Perfect Game All Americans, National ranked teams and former major league players highlighted the weekend.

On Thursday, the Wolves faced nationally ranked Cullman, Alabama and Perfect Game All American pitcher Jacob Heatherly.  Frank Bradshaw fired a complete game 4 hitter in a hard-fought, 4-3 loss.  Michael Gelb had a big 2 run single as the Wolves rallied in the 6th.

Friday saw the Wolves battle Bishop McLaughlin Catholic (Spring Hill, Fla) in an extra inning affair, with the Wolves coming out on top, 12-10.  Cole Hunter picked up the win in relief with 2 scoreless innings.  Noah Ledford drove in the final 3 runs to lead the Wolves offensively. 

Saturday, Buford returned for a doubleheader at 10:30 am and 1 pm.  In game 1, the Wolves defeated Second Baptist Fighting Eagles (Houston, Tx) 10-3.   Second Baptist coaching staff included for MLB players Lance Berkman, Andy Pettit and Craig Biggio (HOF).  Ramsey David got the win and Akira Mitchell led the Wolves offensive attack. 

In game 2, the Wolves defeated First Presbyterian Day (Macon, Ga) 3-2 as Sean Adams got the win and Noah Ledford picked up the save.  Buford scored 3 runs in the first 2 innings and held on to pick up their 3rd win of the tournament. 

The Wolves posted a 3-1 mark for the second consecutive year of competition in the Perfect Game Tournament and now settle into their region schedule beginning Wednesday, March 15 at Johnson.
