Lady Wolves Soccer Clinch Region Championship

Lady Wolves Soccer mathematically clinch region championship with one game still to play

With one game still to play, the Lady Wolves have clinched the region championship by defeating Clarke Central on Friday evening (3/22).  The win came in an unusual fashion, as the team had to win by going to the spot and finishing off the game 3-1 on PKs.  The 0-0 scoreline after regulation and extra time may give the illusion that the game was a tightly fought battle, yet players and spectators alike know the Wolves dominated the game, outshooting and out-possessing their opponent all night.  Unfortunately, the ball did not find the back of the net during the 95 minutes of play, and penalties became inevitable.  When it came down to it, juniors Arden Paulino, Ava Sherman, and sophomore Chloe Kerr were perfect from the spot.  On the other side of the ball, junior keeper Maggie Leland had her best performance of the season, saving 3 of the 4 penalties as well as coming up big on a couple occasions during the game.

This region championship marks the third trophy  for the senior class.  Incredibly, this senior group has won every region game except for one throughout their four years at BHS.  Additionally, the Lady Wolves have now won 7 of the last 8 region championships in divisions AAA, AAAA, and AAAAA.

When asked about it, head coach Andrew Eager said that "the end result was the right result.  We showed we were the best team in our region against all of our opponents, and these ladies deserve the recognition for their hard work.  Now we have to focus, finish off the regular season, and start preparing for our run through the playoff."

Currently, the Lady Wolves hold a 8-3-2 record, 4-0 in region.  The team has scored 9 times during regular play (2.25 goals x game) against region opponents, and has only been scored on once (0.25 goals x game).  The last region game will be played against Cedar Shoals.

The next game for our Lady Wolves is on Monday, March 25, at 5:55pm, against Chamblee Charter.  The next home game will be against Lumpkin County, on April 12, at 5:30pm.  Please come out and show support!
