Buford Boys and Girls XC compete at state meet

5A State Meet, Carrollton, GA

Friday, November 1st        The state championship course at Carrollton met athletes with near perfect running conditions despite several days of rain leading up to race day. The runners welcomed the 48 degree race temps at the line, and, as always, were reminded by the starter that they were racing among the best high school runners in Georgia. To have made it to the state meet with both our teams is an accomplishment to be proud of - a statement not lost on our Buford XC athletes and coaches.

Varsity Girls:   McIntosh successfully defended their 2018 title by placing 4 athletes in the top 14 for the state race. Our region respectfully placed three teams inside the top 20, our own girls running well and placing 17th out of 29 teams. Race times for our state athletes were:  Senior Jordan Sullivan (22:13); Sophomore  Carolyn Calzada (22:15); Freshman Hayden Bailey (23:51);  Junior Caroline Montini (24:22); Senior Rebeka Miranda (24:43);  Senior Mikayla Frierson (25:30); and Sophomore Leah Madsen (25:32) .  Alternate: Freshman Ryann Brooks

Varsity Boys:   Our own region champs, Loganville HS, placed 4th in state this year which speaks volumes on the quality of our region competition. With a team average of 19:14, our own boys’ team ran hard and left it all out on the course, coming in  24th out of 31 teams represented. We are sad to lose the drive and leadership our seniors have brought us this year, but we are also very excited about the future of this young team and what we will see from them in the years to come. Race times for our state athletes were:  Senior Ben Archer (18:42); Freshman Carter Hales (19:00); Junior James Morgan (19:18); Freshman Joseph Davis (19:32) ; Freshman Braden Schmid (19:39); Freshman Noah Johnson (19:44); Junior Zach Davidson (19:58).  Alternate: Senior Ked Crossett
