Buford Shuts Down Mill Creek in Game 2 of Baseball Series

BUFORD — Braden Burton and Damian Brown teamed up for the shutout Wednesday as Buford won Game 2 of its Region 8-AAAAAAA baseball series with Mill Creek.

The Wolves (11-4, 5-0) also won Game 1 of the series on Monday. The two teams meet again Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to conclude the three-game set.

Burton (2-0) struck out five and gave up five hits over six scoreless innings. The junior struck out five and walked one.

Brown pitched a perfect seventh inning for his third save of the season.

Buford took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, plating the first run on a two-out single from Sam Humphrey that scored Cam Wood. An errant pick-off throw allowed the second run to score.

The Wolves got an insurance run in the sixth inning that began with Ayden Lockett’s infield single. Lockett stole second base and scored on Jayden Clark’s RBI double. Clark finished 2-for-3 and also scored a run.

Madden Young also went 2-for-3 in the win.

Nick Bennett pitched all seven innings for Mill Creek, scattering seven hits and three runs (two earned). He struck out six and walked none.

Daniel Pierce went 2-for-3 for the Hawks.
