    Buford XC 8AAAAAAA Region Champions

    Buford XC teams find PRs and season bests at Region Meet

    8 AAAAAAA Region Meet, Georgia International Horse Park, Conyers,  GA

    Saturday, October 21st      A beautiful fall morning with temperatures in the low 50’s welcomed the Region 8-AAAAAAA runners to Georgia International Horse Park for the Region Meet. Many of our athletes enjoyed PR’s today.

    Girls Varsity: Our girls had performed well this year and came into this meet knowing they should qualify for the state meet.  They performed very well, giving a short-handed Mill Creek team a scare on their way to a runner-up finish.  Jasmine Jones led the way with a second place finish and our girl's fastest time of the year in 20:22.  Jaelyn Ozkan (21:34), Emma Webb (21:37), Taylor Morrison (21:52), Addison Steinbrecher (22:27), Deyabdi Rendon (22:37) and Cam Perry (22:57) all finished in the top 15 of the race.

    Boys Varsity: The boys team came into this race determined to make sure they qualified for the state meet.  They took charge early in the race and finished as the runner-up team, putting a bit of distance between them and the 3rd and 4th place teams.  James Hales led the way placing 6th in 17:34.  Jesus Miranda (17:52) and Luciano Lira (17:53) followed with top 10 finishes.  Noah Matthes (18:21), Zach LaForce (18:31), Alexander Zachman (18:36) and Jose Mayorga (18:38) all finished in the top 21.

    JV Girls: Our JV girls Placed second in the team score.  Seniors Cassandra Mayo (24:02) and Emmie Adams (24:29) led the way in their last race.  Emory Curry (24:51), Daniela Plata (25:04) and Kayla Davis (25:08) finished off our team score.

    JV Boys: The JV boys were led by Eli Matthes (18:48) and Chris Alcott (18:50), followed by Caleb Watson (19:36), Az Baza (19:51) and Josh Lee (20:05).  The JV Boys also finished as runner-ups.

    The Buford Varsity XC teams will run at the State Championships in Carrollton, GA on Saturday, November 4th at 8:00 and 8:45 am. 

    XC All-Region team announced

    Five Varsity Girls and Three Varsity Boys Named to All-Region team

    Five girls and three boys from the Buford XC Varsity team were named to the All-Region team for their performances at the Region Championship meet on October 21st.   Great job leading your teams to a runner-up finish at region!

    Buford XC races well at the Kent Kramer Classic

    Kent Kramer Classic Athens, Georgia  

    Thursday, October 12th, 2023          Buford XC tuned up for next week's region meet with an afternoon race in Athens.

    Boys Varsity:  The boys competed well and finished a solid 5th.  Junior James Hales ran a strong and steady race crossing the line at 17:20 finishing 10th.  Seniors Jesus Miranda (17:58) and Luciano Lira (17:59) finished in the top 25.   Freshman Matthew Crabbe (18:15), Senior Noah Matthes (18:22) and Sophomore Jose Mayorga (18:40) finished in the top 40.

    Girls Varsity: The Varsity girls enjoyed an impressive 2nd place finish out of11 teams.  The Freshmen led the charge with Jasmine Jones (20:56), Jaelyn Ozkan (21:23), Emma Webb (22:08) and Taylor Morrison (22:16) finishing in the top 10.  Deyabdi Rendon (22:27), Addison Steinbrecher (22:36) and Cam Perry (23:39) posted top 25 finishes. 

    The Buford XC teams will compete next at the Region Championships at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, GA on Saturday, October 21st. 

    Buford XC Runs at Alexander/Asics Invitational

    Alexander/Asics Invitational   Winder , Ga

    Saturday, September 30th    The sun came up and so did the temperature at this year's Alexander/Asics Invitational in Fairburn, GA.  Unfortunately, the warm temperatures prevented our hopeful PRs on a course known for being fast. 

    Boys Varsity: Our Varsity boys placed 5th among 35 teams.  Junior James Hales (16:58) set a PR and had a top 25 finish.  Seniors Jesus Miranda (17:36), Luciano Lira (17:39) and Noah Matthes (17:49) also set PRs under 18:00.  Freshmen Zach LaForce (18:18) and Matthew Crabbe (18:23) set PRs under 18:30 and Alexander Zachman (18:24) made sure all 7 runners finished in the top 100.

    Girls Varsity: Our Varsity boys placed 6th among 30 teams.  Freshmen Jaelyn Ozkan (21:35), Deyabdi Rendon (21:36), Emma Webb (21:56), Jasmine Jones (22:03) led the charge finishing in the top 50.  Junior Addison Steinbrecher (22:15) and Freshman Taylor Morrison (22:49) finished in the top 100.  Seniors Cam Perry (23:44) and Cassandra Mayo (24:09) also ran well in the varsity race. 

    Boys JV: Our JV boys finished 5th out of 23 teams and nearly 400 runners.  Jose Mayorga (18:38) broke 19:00 for the first time leading the team.  Fellow Sophomores Eli Matthes (18:57) and Chris Alcott (19:11) finished in the top 25.  Az Baza (19:38), Connor Thomson (19:39) and AJ Frierson (19:59) also broke 20:00 on the day. 

    Girls JV: Our JV girls finished 4th out of 15 teams and nearly 200 runners.  Seniors Emily Nava (24:38) and Emmie Adams (24:56) led the team with top 15 finishes.  Juniors Daniela Plata (25:19) and Emory Curry (25:35) came in next and  finished in the top 25.  Senior Caitlyn Crews (25:52) and Freshman Kayla Davis (25:56) finished in the top 35.

    The Buford Wolves XC Team will race next at the Kent Kramer Classic in Athens, GA on October 12th. 

    Buford XC competes against the best of Gwinnett in Gwinnett County Championships

    Top 10 finish in races featuring some of the top teams in 7AAAAAAA

    Gwinnett County Championships, Conyers GA

    Saturday, September 16th      Always a competitive meet, with powerhouse programs like Mill Creek, Brookwood, North Gwinnett, and Parkview, the front-runners are both fast and fun to watch. With over 1400 county athletes participating, our Buford XC runners stepped up to the challenge and ran against some of the fastest runners in this state. 

    Girls Varsity: Girls Varsity placed 6th out of 17 teams and saw stand out performances from some of our freshmen. Jaelyn Ozkan (22:24), Emma Webb (22:31) and Taylor Morrison (22:52) led the team on this dreary day with Junior Addison Steinbrecher (22:56) and Deyabdi Rendon (23:00) right on their heals. 

    Boys Varsity: The boys team took a 9th place finish among a very competitive field of 23 teams. James Hales had a top 25 finish (17:35).  Junior Alexander Zachman (18:30) ran a strong race with Jesus Miranda (18:31).  Freshman Zach LaForce (18:39) set a PR followed by Noah Matthes (18:53) and Chris Alcott (19:12).

    JV Girls:  The JV Girls finished 4th out of 13 teams. Scoring for the wolves:  Senior Emily Nava (25:16), Junior Daniela Plata (25:57) Junior Emory Curry (26:43), Freshman Kayla Davis (26:47) and Freshman Kaitlyn Harper (26:57). 

    JV Boys:  The JV Boys finished 4th out of 16 teams. Scoring for the wolves:  Sophomore Connor Thomson (20:03), Junior Az Baza (20:08) Senior Jhoany Rendon (20:16), Junior Ben Davis (20:18) and Senior Noah McClure (20:27). 

    The Buford Wolves XC Team will race next at the Alexander/Asics  Invitational on September 30th.
