Class of 2020 standouts

Buford Softball Senior Class of 2020

Today we honor 7 senior softball players for their contributions to Buford High School, to our Softball Program and our community. Each of these young ladies have displayed “Triple A Excellence” in academics, athletics and the arts throughout their 4 years of high school.  These softballs seniors have 1 state championships, 2 region championships, 3 State Final Four appearances and 103 wins, only 31 losses.

Anabel Adams,

Daughter of Julie and Trent Adams

Anabel has been a member of the varsity softball team for 4 years.  Anabel has also been a baseball manager for 2 seasons and an education intern for 4 years.

The most influential person in her life would have to be her dad.  Not only has he taught her the way of the game but also the way of life.  He taught me to be coachable and selfless.

Anabel’s honors include:

2nd Team All Region for 2 years

Winning state as a freshman

Junior year being on the Gwinnett Diamond Club team of the month

Anabel’s favorite softball memories are everyone meeting up every Friday morning to have breakfast.

Anabel will be attending the University of North Georgia to play softball and study early childhood education.

Kennedi Bauman,

Daughter of Vaughn Bauman.

Kennedi is a first year member of the varsity softball team and a 2 year member of the Wolves softball program.

Adison English

Daughter of Tony and Tracee English

Adison has played Buford softball throughout middle school and high school.  She has also participated in chorus, dance and the Variety Show.

Adison’s dad has been the biggest influence in her softball career, he has spent many hour and weekends being her team coach as well as traveling in travel ball.

Adie’s favorite softball memory was having a special car made for her and having her friends enjoy it as much as she did.

Adison plans to attend college but is undecided as to where.  She will be following her dream of becoming a flight attendant.

Ansleigh Hollifield

Daughter of Ben and Lori Hollifield

Ansleigh has been a member of the varsity softball team for 3 years.  She also participates in Chorus and the Variety Show.

The most influential person in Ansleigh’s life is her dad and her pitching instructor, Lacey Ingram and hitting instructor Emily “Bird” Herrin.

Among Ansleigh’s honors are 3 year varsity letter winner in softball, All Region first Team and an All Gwinnett County 3rd Team.

Ansleigh’s favorite softball memory is when her and Anabel decorated their hotel room in Columbus Halloween themed, since it was around Halloween.

Ansleigh will be attending Kennesaw State University to play softball and continue her education.

Kaitlyn Pickens

Daughter of Richard and Julie Pickens

Kaitlyn is a member of the National Honor Society.

A 3 year member of the varsity softball team.

A baseball manager as a freshman and sophomore.

An education intern for 2 years.

The most influential people in Kaitlyn’s softball life are her mom and dad.  Thanks for spending hours and hours at the ballpark and all your time and money to allow me to travel and play the sport I love the most.

Honors for Kaitlyn include:

2 year member of the National Honor Society

Academic Letter for 3 years

Kaitlyn’s favorite Softball memory was last year in Columbus when we were losing to South Effingham, but we never gave up and we fought and came back and won.  That was one of the best and most fun games I have ever experienced.

After High School Kaitlyn plans to attend Emmanuel College to continue her softball and academic career.

Kara Taylor

Daughter of Nick and Anita Taylor

Kara’s activities include Buford Softball for 4 years, JV basketball freshman and sophomore years, and baseball manager freshman and sophomore years.

The most influential person in Kara’s softball life is her dad because he always takes time out of his day to work with me and is my biggest supporter on and off the field.

Kara was on the 2017 Region Championship softball team and has helped the team finish 3rd and 4th place in the state Tournament the past two years.

Kara’s favorite softball memory is when they told Ansleigh to go to left field and she ran as fast as she could to rightfield.

Kara will be attending Piedmont College after high school and will play softball and study to become an elementary school teacher.

Amelia Veal

Daughter of Mark and Kim

School activities include: Softball , Spanish Club, Beta Club, Mission Trip to Nicaragua, HOSA and Lacrosse.

The most influential person in Amelia’s life is her mom and dad.

Amelia has earned academic letters, varsity softball letters, varsity lacrosse letters, and has been named 1st team All region and All Gwinnett County. Amelia has been named to the President’s list and is currently a dual enrollment student at the University of North Georgia.

Amelia’s favorite softball moment was during a rain delay at Grayson, we threw a softball with tic-tac-toe drawn on it, to the other team to see if they would play the game.

After high School, Amelia plans to attend a major university to pursue an undergraduate degree in medicine, followed by Dental school and a postdoctoral program in Orthodontics.

Wolves split 2 games on day 2 in Columbus

By Tony Wolfe 10/25/2019, 11:15pm EDT

Wolves advance to Final 4

The Wolves let game 1 of the day slip away, as Jones County hit a 6th inning grand slam to take a 5-3 win over our Wolves.  Ansleigh Hollifield was the tough luck loser, allowing only 2 earned runs on 2 hits, and striking out 11.  Emmy Hall and Abbi Perkins had RBI hits to lead the Wolves, who managed only 3 hits.

In game 2, the Wolves defeated Carrolton 2-0 in the losers bracket, behind Ansleigh Hollifield's 2 hit shutout.  Emma Castorri's squeeze bunt scored the Wolves first run (Taylor Malvin's double started the inning) and Abbi Perkins drove home another with a single.

The Wolves are now in the Final 4 for the 15th consecutive year, and the 16th time in 18 fastpitch seasons.  Buford will have a rematch with Harris County Saturday morning at 10 am.  Buford defeated Harris 1-0 in game 1 on Thursday.
