Buford’s Corky Kell Classic game last week was canceled due to an extreme amount of rain and a playing surface that was deemed unplayable as a result of the weather that came through Gwinnett County last Friday night. This week, the Buford Wolves offense made it rain touchdowns on a pristine field at Tom Riden Stadium beating Jonesboro (1-1) 41-0.

Youth Night at Buford High School brought out the community’s youth football and cheerleading students, and they were treated to an electric offensive display starting with the quarterback play of Jarvis Evans. The Junior lefty threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one, and seems to be in complete command of the offense. He was accurate, confident, and connected with Justice Johnson, Tommy Beuglas, and Davis Peek for those three touchdown tosses. All three TD passes were right on the money.

The big guys upfront dominated the line of scrimmage, and allowed Junior tailback Gabe Erivn to rush for 102 yards and a score. The Junior tailback showed patience and explosive athleticism as he gashed the Jonesboro defense Friday night. Senior tailback Xalan Taylor also scored for the Wolves on an impressive run set up by great blocking up front.

The defense was equally impressive as they hold Joneboro to zero points despite being inside Buford territory a few times. The Buford defense found themselves having to make a stand on their own 1-yard line after a turnover, and make a stand they did. After 4 attempts at a score the Buford defense held strong and kept them out of the end zone keeping the shutout intact.

A big congratulations goes out to head football coach, Bryant Appling, on his first win as a head coach. The defensive effort, intensity and grit displayed Friday night is a direct reflection of the character Coach Appling displays every day. Tom Riden Stadium was packed, loud and intense all night. The student section was enthusiastic, the band was elite, and the community is truly rallying around this team. The Wolves will need that same support next Friday night as they take on the defending 7A State Champions, Milton High School at Milton High School at 8 p.m. Go Wolves!
