JV Boys and Girls crush the competition and take 1st place at Region Meet

Region 8-AAAAAA Meet  Winder, GA

Saturday, October 24th, 2020    It was an exciting morning of PR’s and season’s best races for our Buford cross country team. This is the team’s first year moving up to the 6A classification, and we are so proud of the hard work that went into this race to see these results. Our JV boys and girls teams both came home region champions, and our varsity boys and girls teams qualified for the State Championship meet!

Boys Varsity: Sophomore Carter Hales (17:59) fought from the front and ran a sub 18 for the team. Senior James Morgan (18:22) led the Buford pack that would soon follow.   Sophomore Garrett Posey (18:23), Senior Zach Davidson (18:25), and Freshman Ben Webb (18:26) rounded out the score.  Sophomore Noah Johnson (18:34) and Freshman Noah Matthes (18:45)  also represented Buford in the Varsity race. The boys finished 4th and will advance out of the region to compete at the State Championship meet.

Girls Varsity:  The Varsity girls charge was led by Senior Caroline Snell (21:16) followed by sister Callie Snell (21:28)  and Senior Caroline Montini (21:29).  Freshman Cameron Perry pulled fourth for the team, shaving more than a minute off of her PR by coming in at 23:02. Senior Mackenzie Curry (24:41) finished out the score for the girls varsity. Sophomore Hayden Bailey (25:11) and Junior Madeline Matos (28:52) also represented the Buford girls’ team in the varsity race. The girls finished 3rd behind Winder Barrow and Lanier and will advance to the State Championship meet.

Boys JV:  The depth of the Buford boys side is obvious when watching this JV team run. All five scorers placed in the top ten with the boys team finishing 1st place in the Region and creating a 35 point spread between 1st place and 2nd place. The charge was led by Sophomore Braden Schmid who came in first overall in the JV race with a time of 18:42.  Sophomore Joseph Davis (18:49) followed shortly after, and  8th grade Cameron “Turtle” Kazienko (19:00), Sophomore Brice Reynolds (19:32), and Freshman Ben Beardsely (19:41) rounded out the score.

Girls JV:  The JV girls looked strong and brought home 1st place at the Region meet as well. Freshman Caitlyn Crews (24:23) led the team and placed 1st place overall in the JV girls' race. She was followed by sister Kelsey Crews (24:58) who took 3rd place overall. Freshman Emmie Adams (26:00) and Sophomore Ashley Morales (26:06) also enjoyed top ten finishes. Senior Ashley Eades (26:51) rounded out the score for the team and helped bring home the hardware. We are so proud of these girls and their hard work. This 1st place win was certainly well-deserved.

The Varsity teams will compete at the GHSA State Meet held on Friday, November 6th, 2020 in Carrollton, Ga
